Community Arts
Parks & People Foundation’s Community Arts program strives to integrate the arts into Parks & People’s projects and programs by promoting cooperation between community leaders and activists, leaders of arts-oriented non-profits, and public agencies. The goal of the program is to encourage self-expression and stewardship through the visual, media, and performing arts.
Projects fostered in our Community Arts program have an extremely positive impact on the restoration, beautification, and appreciation of Baltimore’s urban natural resources.
Recent projects include Art on the Trail, an annual art installation along the Gwynns Falls Trail as well as a collaboration with the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts to arrange a tour of temporary and alternative public art locations across Baltimore for attendees of the Americans for the Arts national conference.
We also partnered with Nana Projects, the organization that produces the annual Patterson Park Lantern Parade, to create “How To Grow A Pickle”, a shadow puppet show for children and families that revolves around backyard gardening. Four well-attended performances were held at community garden spaces including the Filbert Street Garden in Curtis Bay, the 901 Arts Youth Sculpture Garden in Waverly and the Hamilton Crop Circle in Hamilton in Fall 2010.
Other collaborations include an installation in Franklin Square with Art for a Greener Environment.
