Curriculum
The KidsGrow program uses three different curricula to develop the whole child. The program uses an innovative science and inquiry based curriculum that interweaves multidisciplinary academic skills (reading, writing, math, social studies, and critical thinking skills) with ecology, stewardship and community and personal growth (self efficacy and confidence); the curriculum was developed specifically for the program by the Baltimore Ecosystem Study, a program of the National Science Foundation’s Long Term Ecological Research network.
KidsGrow also uses the 100 Book Challenge program to help with students’ literacy development. The program is based on the premise that one of the best ways to build a background for reading more fluently—is by reading.
The KidsGrow program not only develops student’s academically but also socially by using the Boy’s Scout’s Learning For Life Character Education curriculum to teach children about ethical decision making, drug prevention strategies, career preparedness and daily living skills.
