Nature Play

Nature Play Spaces
Parks & People values children’s play in outdoor green spaces.  To help Baltimore City families consider the importance of play for children’s health and well being, we have created demonstration nature play spaces at events.  In Partnership with Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks, we have set up play spaces at the Baltimore Green Week’s Ecofestival, the National Healthy Homes Festival, and Baltimore’s Flowermart.

Why do children need natural play spaces?
We believe that natural play spaces are an essential part of childhood and that children who are allowed time to freely connect with nature have a much better chance of growing into adults who appreciate community, diversity, and the environment.  Nature as “teacher” instills wonder, creativity and respect, and observations of nature provide perspectives about form and function that cannot be learned in any other environment.
