In 1997, the Parks & People Foundation started SuperKids Camp to provide a fun and engaging summer program for children in Baltimore City. The idea was to combine traditional summer camp activities with enriching learning experiences that would help prepare students to return to school in the fall.
Since our first summer, over 20,000 children have attended SuperKids Camp, a nationally recognized model for summer learning. SuperKids Camp is a summer cultural enrichment program designed to help elementary grade students (rising 2nd , 3rd and 4th graders) in Baltimore City Public Schools maintain and/or improve their academic skills. Along with intensive reading instruction and math training, campers are afforded the opportunity to enjoy a variety of stimulating, character building, activities that fully integrate literacy strategies. Activities include sailing, performing arts, science, music, drama, swimming and other enriching activities.
In addition to the daily camp program, all SuperKids campers receive free tansportation and meals - all for just $60! We thank our many partners and funders for allowing us to offer this extraordinary program (a $1,400 per child value) at such a reasonable cost. For more information on the program, call (410) 662-5846 ext. 116.
In its 2012 summer, Parks & People Foundation was a part of Baltimore City Super Summer, an innovative partnership between the City of Baltimore, Baltimore City Public Schools and nonprofits like us to ensure that every child has access to learning, meals, reading and other fun activities during the summer.
