Building an entire playground in one day?

On May 29, 2025, Parks & People built a new playground in one day with our partners, for Leith Walk Elementary/Middle School. Thanks to a powerful partnership between Baltimore City Public Schools, Leith Walk Elementary/Middle School, Principal Ashanti Porter, Lysa Ratliff and Sally Dorman from KABOOM!, the CARMAX Foundation, and the passionate team at Parks & People, a brand-new Leith Walk Elementary School playground was installed!

This project came to life with the support of dedicated public leaders—Mayor Brandon M. Scott, Delegate Regina T. Boyce, Delegate Elizabeth Embry, and Senator Mary L. Washington, Ph.D.—whose advocacy and leadership helped turn vision into reality. This new play space isn’t just about rock walls and slides, it’s about building a healthier, more connected future for Baltimore’s children. It’s a place where imagination can thrive, friendships can grow, and joy can take root.

It was amazing to see our team roll up their sleeves and help bring this dream to life! Together, we’re creating more than playgrounds, we’re investing in our youth and creating hope for our future.

At Parks & People, we believe opportunities to play are vital for community wellbeing. Working with Baltimore City Rec and Parks, we are ensuing every neighborhood has access to healthy play spaces and community playgrounds. Public-private partnerships, led by organizations like Parks & People, Baltimore City Public Schools, and KABOOM!, are turning vacant lots and aging playgrounds into vibrant spaces for our youth.
