Growing East Baltimore’s access to nature

The Boone Street Project led to the creation of a community park on a vacant lot that was formerly Boone Street Farm, an urban farm. Parks & People worked with O'Hara Development Partners to refine the design created by EnviroCollab and construct the park. The work included grading, boulders, plantings, fencing, relocating the shipping container, adding a water hydrant, pathways, and sod.

Ujamaa Cove expands the energy and vision of Boone Street Commons into a sister space just across the street, creating a connected green corridor for the neighborhood. Visitors enter through two tree‑framed pathways that wind through native plantings and lawn—an area slated to become a future play space—before opening onto a generous central green. Raised community planters anchor the north end of the site, while a line of legacy fruit trees brings history and harvest to the south. A storage container tucked into the southeast corner supports ongoing stewardship, set against lush native landscaping. Tying the entire space together is a distinctive rhomboid pathway that loops through the site, creating a welcoming, walkable, and beautifully cohesive community landscape designed to grow alongside the neighborhood.
