On April 15th, residents of Easterwood and Sandtown communities, gathered alongside public officials and community leaders to celebrate the opening of the newly created Easterwood/Sandtown Park & Playground. It was a joyous, memorable day — songs from the Pilgrim Temple Church Choir filled the air as kids played in the park, planted raised beds and neighbors happily conversed about their new neighborhood park.

This new green space was created on a former site of vacant and blighted housing on North McKean Ave. With funding from Maryland Housing and Community Development, and great collaboration with the Matthew Henson Community Development Corporation, Parks & People led the design and renovation of the space. Parks have the power to unite communities all across Baltimore and it’s evident that this new park has already ushered in a new sense of hope and pride for years to come.
