On January 8, 2026, Parks & People gathered with partners, funders, and community members to celebrate the ribbon cutting for Phase II of the schoolyard renovations at Hamilton Elementary/Middle School in Northeast Baltimore. Launched in 2019, the project set out to transform the schoolyard into a safe, welcoming space for outdoor play—while also delivering environmental benefits like reduced stormwater runoff through soil decompaction and increased use of revitalized play areas. With more than $700,000 invested in the Westfield community, the completed phase features new playground equipment, thoughtful landscaping and hardscapes, four newly planted trees, and a vibrant walking path that invites movement, connection, and everyday moments of wonder.
