Summer Memories That Last a Lifetime

What Leila Amin remembers best about SuperKids Camp is the field trips: making spaghetti towers at Johns Hopkins, swimming at the pool, STEM activities around the city, and spending a lot of time outdoors. Leila says that SuperKids Camp gave her the chance to connect with kids her own age and make new friends.

“I just remember having a really good time.”

More Than a Summer Camp

Parks & People’s SuperKids Camp engages Baltimore City elementary school students in six weeks of nature-based summer learning to strengthen core academics while promoting sustainable habits, creative expression, and personal growth.

From Curious Camper to Boeing Engineer

Leila, now an industrial engineer at Boeing, says that summer programs like SuperKids Camp shaped her path toward a career in STEM. "Doing different types of things every day really teaches you problem solving skills,” she explains. As an adult, she sought opportunities for curiosity and critical thinking, drawing upon a childhood filled with exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning.

Most importantly, these diverse learning experiences sparked a sense of wonder, helping her see possibilities beyond the everyday and imagine a future full of opportunity. “It's important for kids to understand that they have options and that they can be whatever they want to be,” Leila says. “Getting exposure is the only way you're really able to understand who you are as a person. And I think that the younger you learn that the earlier start you can have to building the life that you really want.”

Celebrating 30 Years of SuperKids Camp

SuperKids Camp turns 30 this year, marking three decades of equitable, wonder-filled summer learning experiences for Baltimore City children. For generations of campers like Leila, those experiences have offered not just summer memories, but a foundation for a lifetime of curiosity, growth, and possibility.

Every future engineer, artist, scientist, or leader starts somewhere. If you know a child ready to explore, imagine, and discover what's possible, learn more about SuperKids Camp and give them a summer filled with wonder, growth, and opportunity.
